Meet, Greet and Talk Session’

The Department of Business Administration (DBA) under the School of Business, Britannia University organized a ‘Meet, Greet and Talk Session’ with the BBA students from 1st to 12th semesters. The session was held on 18th May, 2020 at 11.30am using Zoom online platform. It was a more than 2 hours long live session with 4 sub sessions. This is first of such kind of online live session with the whole departmental student and faculty representatives. The DBA explored various aspects of online class sessions from the eyes of around 82 BBA students and 6 faculty members.
In this open platform for live meeting, greeting and talking both students and faculty members discussed about various aspects of online class sessions.
The students identified fluctuations of internet speed and local networks, lack of WiFi network services at remote areas, mobile data orientation in attending class sessions, problems of recharging during lockdown, unmute sessions of the unconscious participants, every 40 minutes auto break in Zoom platform as irritating and acute uncontrollable problems. Some of them expressed their concern for online assessment methods for Mid Term and Final exam, assignment and viva or presentation.
However, many positive experiences were shared by the students regarding online class sessions. Such experiences include 1) appreciation of friendly, sincere and hardworking efforts, encouragement, lecture synopsis, notes, guidelines, etc., by the faculty members, 2) group call in Zoom for demo practice among the batch mates before formal class starting, 3) opportunity to remain confined to home and therefore being safe due to online classes, 4) chance to be updated with video conferencing skills and enjoy more connectivity. They stated that even though initial tensions, they adjusted themselves with the Zoom cloud platform and considered online class sessions as opportunity and an overall good experience. One student requested not to include previous semester’s marks in grading this semester results while the other proposed to include the same.
The faculty members stated that they provided lecture synopsis, guided chapter objectives, took make up class for missing classes, lecture video was recorded and given to solve various quantitative and qualitative classes. The course distribution list was also shown to the students to prepare them for the Summer 2020 semester registration process. The students were also assured that reasonable time would be provided before finalizing and circulating the Mid Term and Final Examination schedule.
The session was chaired by the honorable Dean of the School of Business Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, hosted by Lecturer Mrs. Tania Akter, coordinated by the faculty members 1) Mr. Md. Saddam Hossain, 2) Mrs. Khaleda Akter, 3) Mrs. Farzana Tabassum, 4) Mrs. Fatema-Tuz-Zohara.
The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the students and faculty members by the honorable Dean of the School of Business Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya who assured to organize webinar series in the upcoming days to enrich students’ knowledge and skill base.
